Walking through the old souk, I came across this old man -very expressive face, the grey bread, the prayer beads in hand, the headdress and the walking stick. In his eyes, I could see there were so many stories to tell, so much experience - I wondered if he had many grandchildren and if they actually sat cross-legged on the floor listening to his stories and learning about life. I wanted to sit and listen to him myself. Now I regret that I did not try.
The photo is blurred because I took it in a hurry.
Then I was hit with the aroma of freshly baked bread, and there he was the man selling bread on what looks like a converted baby pram.
The old man selling tea, which he pours for you from a copper kettle, gets a lot of attention, told me the younger man in the photo. The old man offered me some tea. It's probably thick, dark and very sweet, I didn't want to refuse his generousity, but, what can I do, I only drink earl grey! :-p
And finally, in this series, the old man selling roasted peanuts. Another wonderful aroma, the floor was filled with peanut shells but the guy from the municipality swept around the roaster with such tender care. I felt he and the peanut seller have known each for years, and that they had this ritual dance every day at the same time. Perhaps the peanut seller gave him free roasted peanuts every day.

How nice post, Fadwa. I like your blog. I think it will be a very good way to know more about your culture which I know very little.
I also read your ebook with the purse's contents. I think it is a great idea and for sure I will send you mine. On one hand, I am a little bit embarassed, I must say, although on the other hand I feel confident because I have read we all take such a lot of innecessary things with us... I always need the thing I put out of the purse to make it lighter... You probably know...
Very nice to meet you. See you soon. Congratulations and thanks.
Hello My DEAR Fadwa! Guess what I received in the mail the other day! Thank you so much for such a gorgeous bit of mail art! My very next blog posting will be purely dedicated to you and Lyle (whom, coincidentally, I received mail art from at the same time!). Your work and the things you put in your gorgeous envelope are so exotic! A bit like you Fadwa!!! XOXOXOX!!!!!
Debbie (Debrina)
PS. mail art to you from me was posted yesterday. Let me know as soon as you get it!!!
A touching experience...a slice of time well noted and lovingly written about! :)
Very nice glimpse of another corner of the world. I like black pekoe tea but not sweetened. That would be hard to get used to.
Fadwa life everywhere is beautiful is't it.
Love Renee xoxo
